Have fun knitting and crocheting bikinis, tops and baby clothing with Summer Comfort, a soft and cool yarn ideal for the summer. This fine cord type yarn is made in a blend of polyamide and viscose. As a result, its elasticity makes it a perfect choice for fitted tops and beach wear. The viscose rich composition ensures that the knit and crochet garments are cool and lightweight. Furthermore, we have applied an antibacterial treatment to Summer Comfort that creates a protective barrier on the surface of the yarn. Avoid the spread of germs and fungi thanks to this antibacterial yarn that ensures the best care for our skin. The treatment prevents the absorption of unpleasant odors and strengthens the properties of cleaning agents throughout the washing process. Note: the duration of this treatment is effective for approximately 25 washes. What are you going to knit or crochet with it?

Making cups

The bralette is a tight fit. Start by measuring your breast size – since the shape and the size are both highly individual it is recommended to make your own measurements and use the pattern instructions as a general guide. Measuring your breast size is very simple: you only need to determine the length between the tip of your nipple and your rib under the breast. Here is a sketch to help you understand which part exactly you need to measure:

The length of that space determines the length of the starting chain you will need to make.

Cup size B basic instructions

R.1

Chain 14+1, sc into the second stitch from your hook, sc into every chain till you reach the last chain. 3sc into the last chain. Sc into the back of the chain across the row, chain 1, turn.

R. 2 – 10

Sc across both sides of the foundation chain, 3 sc into the top stitch.

R. 10 – 13

Chain 2, dc into the first stitch of the row*. Dc across the row. Dc into the last stitch of the row, chain 1, dc into the same st. Dc across the row.

*We are chaining 2 and then working a dc into the first stitch instead of second to avoid having holes that usually occur between 3 chain and the first dc of the row.

R. 14 (17, 20, 21)

Join the contrasting colour (#2), chain 1, sc across, 3 sc into the top stitch.

R. 15 (18, 21, 22)

Join colour #1 work the crab stitch* across the row – place 3 sc into the top stitch of the cup, the crab stitch till the end of the row.

*reverse single crochet also known as crab stitch is the single crochet stitch worked in the reverse direction as opposed to the normal single crochet, from left to right, one sc into the stitch to the right, keeping the working yarn to left of your hook.

Joining the cups together
Joining the cups together

R. 1

Colour #2

Single crochet at the bottom of the cup, then slip stitch into the 1st st of the other cup, sc into the second cup.

**Since there aren’t clear loops in there, you simply need to try to space the sc as evenly as you can: it will be approximately 1 sc into each sc row and 2 sc into each dc row.

R.2

Sc across the row, chain 3 at the end of the row, slip stitch into the previous row to create a loop, slip stitch the 3 chain, slip stitch into the last stitch of the R.2, cast off.

Attach the thread to the first st of the R.2 (the other side of the top), chain 3 at the end of the row, slip stitch into the previous row to create a loop, slip stitch the 3 chain, slip stitch into the last stitch of the R.2, cast off.

Optional: Take the darning needle and yarn #1, sew 8 (10, 12, 13) stitches together from the bottom up in between the cups.

Making the strings

1. The long string with tassels

Take yarn #1, chain 160 (180, 200, 220). With yarn #2 slip stitch across the chain.

Yarn #1, one side of the string.

Wrap the thread 5 times around a 10 cm piece of cardboard, take it off, knot at the top, cut the bottom, pull the top strings into the 1st chain, tie a knot, put the ends with the rest of the tassel, wrap a piece of thread around, tie the knot and put the ends with the rest of the tassel. Trim the ends.

Yarn #2, the other side of the string.

2. Strings at the top of the cups

Yarn #1: Sc into the top 3 sts of the cup, decrease to 1 st, chain 70 (80, 90, 100), slip stitch back, slip stitch into the base of the string, cast off. Repeat with the other cup.

Sewing in ends

To sew in ends, sew them at least 3 times in in different directions. Tie the knots in between ends wherever possible.
